About

After leaving the big city following the tragic death of his fiance, Jeremy Pendelton aimlessly motors south, ending up in small town False River, Louisiana, where he hopes to start his life over. His decision is the first step in his character's transformation from shy bookworm to a confident, aggressive amateur sleuth.

Jeremy takes a room at The Come On Inn where a vacancy recently arose due to resident John Flannery being found dead in his bed. While the owner of the Inn and its residents generally believe Flannery died of a heart attack, a reporter for the town's newspaper suspects foul play due to the fast-tracking of the disposition of Flannery's body by the police. Jeremy is soon befriended by the reporter who seeks Jeremy's assistance as an inside man in uncovering the truth.

Jeremy and his reporter friend conduct a wide ranging investigation leading to a surprising resolution. In the process they uncover some pretty nefarious goings-on in town involving a dangerous, menacing and crooked Chief of Police, named Gus Bonaventure. Jeremy's confrontations with Bonaventure put his life in danger.

The residents of the Inn are an odd group of characters, except for Polly. Their mutual interest in literature draw Polly and Jeremy into a close an even romantic relationship.
